Product Description

When most of us think about performance parts for our 1275cc A-Series motors, roller rockers are usually not the first parts to come to mind. However, a good set of roller rocker arms can not only reduce friction, but also reduce heat, and increase valve guide life. They are also stronger than the stock rockers. They can also make horsepower, particularly the 1.5:1 increased-ratio version that you see here.

These roller rocker arms utilize a roller tip and a roller pivot point, commonly known as a fulcrum or trunion.  While the rocker tip only has the valve tip to contend with, the fulcrum must bear the load of the pushrod at one end and valve spring pressure at the other.  A major point of the friction reduction is the trunion.  Besides the fact that reduced friction increases horsepower, lower oil temperature will help the valve springs live longer, as the oil that lubricates the rocker arms also bathes the valve springs.

These rockers also produce less static friction against the valve tip itself, meaning long tip life, and anytime you reduce friction, you are reducing heat produced by that friction.  A roller rocker does not produce the side loads on the valve that a conventional rocker does because it's not pushing sideways against the valve tip and forcing the stem against one side of the guide. In an engine that’s had roller rockers vs. conventional rocker arms you see far less guide wear, hence this extends your oil control and valve seat life.

Another quality of upgrading to these roller rockers is more accurate valve timing. A roller rocker, properly aligned, will have less forward and back movement, meaning you get more usable lift from the cam at a given pressure against the rocker.

The production, stamped-steel rocker arms use a wide, flat tip that slides across the top of the valve tip as the valve opens, creating a slower, gentler valve actuation. On the other hand, a properly designed roller rocker opens the valve more quickly because the contact point is smaller and remains consistent throughout the arc of the rocker.
